Parties 1966 1967

My best friends at School were Dave Sowerbutts, Chris Rossall and Ray Simpson. We had a few parties at our house in Poulton-le-Fylde. Dave had a great record collection and an impressive knowledge about a wide range of music. He could also do a mean Emperor Roscoe impersonation. He ensured we had the most amazing mix of music at the parties. He did a great job on our old gramophone with a mic into our tape recorder for PA. My dad later got a Goldring Lenco deck with SME 12 inch arm and Shure headshell and cartridge into a proper stereo amplifier. We built the speakers from Wharfedale kits.

The grammar school drew pupils from a wide area so a core of us stayed all night. One time at 2am we went for our customary football match on the park. I famously ran smack into a tree. It was normally opponents and sometimes my own side that I felled this way. The tree didn't budge!

Another time we broke into the teachers training college in Poulton-le-Fylde because we heard there was a disco on. Somehow I had a rolled umbrella and bowler. Some girls from the all girls school were there. Our group made an impression that they recalled many years later. Drink, bad dancing, bowlers, greatcoats, we must have looked a sight.

(sorry its not a good pic Dave but you were doing Emperor Roscoe at the time of the photo)
