The Factory, Silk Street

After the second year of the Bio-medical Electronics degree I helped Jerremy Beauchamp install a plastic extrusion factory in some old mill buildings in Silk Street, Salford, just over the footbridge over the Irwell from the Civil Engineering department. When my final year started I stayed on as 'night watchman'. My job was to switch on the machines at 6am so that they had warmed up when the operators came in. I also was there to deter local kids from breaking in.

I borrowed an air rifle and became quite a good shot but never managed to hit a rat. We were close to thew river and in and old building. I made a 'bedroom' in one of the offices and did my best to seal it so that rats couldn't get in. I tried a succession of about three cats which were all seen off by the rats or nicked by the local kids.

I will do a new post about our quadraphonic party.
